Spring, John La Farge, 1901-02

This large stained glass window is one of the greatest stained glass windows in Western Civilization.  Not only in terms of the secular, highly-idealized subject matter, but also in the supremely-complex manner in which the window was made--while parts of the figure are painted, the window is literally made up of hundreds of pieces of individual glass. This window as commissioned by William C. Whitney for his country home in Old Westbury, Long Island, New York.
